early cosplay: pekochan

I was lucky to walk by the Ginza Matsuzakaya department store today and spot these Pekochan dolls. These are highly coveted by collectors and thieves, and are usually seen in front of Fujiya cake shops. About 50 figures (not all as big as these) have been gathered together to celebrate the character’s 60th birthday. Wow, she’s almost ready for a pension. The display continues until the 30th.
さまざまなコスチュームのペコちゃんがずらり―。誕生から６０年たった不二家のマスコットキャラクターを展示、販売する「ペコちゃんギャラリー」が、２４日から東京・銀座の松坂屋で開催されている。不二家が創業１００周年を迎えて企画。新旧約５０体のペコちゃん、ポコちゃんなどが展示され、限定グッズの販売も行われている。（了）
